An elderly couple have been found dead in their garden in a Cardiff suburb next to an electric lawnmower still connected to the mains. An elderly couple found dead in their Cardiff garden next to a lawnmower may have been electrocuted.
The couple, both aged 87, were discovered in the garden of the property in the Cyncoed area. The Welsh Ambulance Service said the couple, both 87, seemed to have been in the garden overnight when they were found on Tuesday morning in Cyncoed.
The Welsh Ambulance Service said the power was still switched on the lawnmower when they arrived at the property in Bettws-y-Coed Road. The service said the man had been mowing the lawn and may have cut the cable, and his wife then touched his chest and received an electric shock.
However police could not confirm reports the couple were electrocuted. However, police said they could not confirm reports of electrocution.
A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "We are investigating on behalf ofthe coroner the circumstances surrounding the death of an elderly couple atBettws-Y-Coed Road. A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said it had been called out shortly before 1100 BST and found the two people lying in the garden.
"We attended within six minutes to find that the couple, both aged 87, appeared to have been electrocuted.
"The male had been mowing the lawn and may have cut the cable and his wife then touched his chest and also received an electric shock.
"They were found by their son this morning but they appear to have been in the garden overnight."
A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "We are investigating on behalf of the coroner the circumstances surrounding the death of an elderly couple at Bettws-Y-Coed Road.
