A spokesman said all eight people were out of the vehicle by the time crews arrived and the driver was being treated by paramedics. Gwent Police said no-one was seriously injured, but the driver and one pupil were taken to Abergavenny's Nevill Hall Hospital as a precaution.
Gwent Police said no other vehicle was involved and there were no serious injuries reported. The parents have all been informed and the road has now been reopened.
The road is currently closed in both directions and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible. The police confirmed no other vehicle was involved in the accident and the circumstances are now being investigated.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "There are no reports of any serious injuries."
