A Sea King helicopter, from nearby RAF Lossiemouth, had arrived on the scene, but had found no trace of wreckage. No aircraft has been reported missing. Aberdeen Coastguard said it was also investigating a reported sighting of people in the water.
Two lifeboats were searching the Moray Firth and a coastguard rescue team were also taking part. A Sea King helicopter, from nearby RAF Lossiemouth, had arrived on the scene, but had found no trace of wreckage. No aircraft had been reported missing.
The alarm was raised just before 1700 BST. Two lifeboats and a coastguard rescue team were also involved in the search.

Aberdeen Coastguard confirmed emergency services had received a 999 call just before 1700 BST.
He said: "A 999 call just said a light aircraft had been seen going down near the Nairn harbour, with possible persons in the water. A search is ongoing."
