Grammy nominations: Beyoncé, Sam Smith, Taylor Swift, Iggy Azalea and more
(35 minutes later) | |
R&B superstar Beyoncé and British pop sensation Sam Smith topped the Grammy nominations on Friday with five each.
Smith, powered by his smash hit “Stay With Me,” landed nods in the coveted Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist categories. Meanwhile, Beyoncé made history by becoming the most-Grammy nominated female artist ever with nominations including Best R&B Song for “Drunk in Love” (featuring her husband Jay Z) and Best Urban Contemporary Album for her self-titled record.
The final group of nominations for Album of the Year — the biggest prize of the night — will be announced during “A Very Grammy Christmas” on CBS at 9 p.m., featuring performances from Sam Smith, Ariana Grande and Big Sean.
Rapper Iggy Azalea joined Smith in the New Artist category and scooped up four nominations of her own, including Record of the Year and Pop Duo/Group Performance for the inescapable “Fancy,” along with Rap Album. Sia’s “Chandelier” also saw four nods for Record, Song, Pop Solo Performance and Music Video.
Elsewhere in pop: Taylor Swift, whose record-breaking “1989″ isn’t even eligible this year, also scored three nods for Record, Song and Pop Solo Performance for her “sorry, haters” single “Shake It Off.” Meghan Trainor landed three nominations for her body acceptance anthem “All About That Bass”; she’s in the Best New Artist category alongside Smith, Azalea, rock band Bastille and country singer/songwriter Brandy Clark. |
