John Locke, senior crown prosecutor from the CPS Wessex Complex Casework Unit said: "It is alleged that Mr Faruk Ali... was assaulted on 20 February 2014 by PC Thomas and that this assault was racially aggravated.
"It is also alleged that PC Thomas and PC Pitts have perverted the course of public justice and committed misconduct in public office.
"I carefully reviewed all the evidence provided to me by Leicestershire Police and was satisfied in accordance with the code for Crown Prosecutors that there was sufficient evidence and that it was in the public interest to charge these two officers with these offences."
