She fell into a coma and died the next day, hours after her husband Maurice returned from Egypt where he had been visiting relatives. They found blood smeared around the hallway and called out for their mother.

The court heard that at about 1800 GMT on 29 November Mrs Rezk, a PhD student at Girton College, Cambridge, had a three-way telephone conversation with her children to arrange a family dinner that evening.
CCTV footage showed her leaving work at an in-flight entertainment company in Covent Garden then later carrying two carrier bags with the food she had arranged to buy.
Her children arrived at the house at around 2045 GMT to find the door ajar.
Mr Whittam, prosecuting, said: "Dina noticed that the door was ajar and thought: 'Silly mum she's only just got home and she's left the door open'."

But when they went into the house they found blood smeared around the hallway and called out for their mother, he said.

Prosecutors alleged Mr Edwards had entered the house with the intention of carrying out a burglary. Jurors heard Mrs Rezk fell into a coma and died the next day, hours after her husband Maurice returned from Egypt where he had been visiting relatives.
