She fell into a coma and died the next day, hours after her husband Maurice returned from Egypt where he had been visiting relatives.
It (blood) was smeared on the walls and floor and her mother's three-band ring lay on the tiled floor Prosecutor Richard Whittam
The court heard that at about 1800 GMT on 29 November Mrs Rezk, a PhD student at Girton College, Cambridge, had a three-way telephone conversation with her children to arrange a family dinner that evening.
CCTV footage showed her leaving work at an in-flight entertainment company in Covent Garden then later carrying two carrier bags with the food she had arranged to buy.
Her children arrived at the house at around 2045 GMT to find the door ajar.
Mr Whittam, prosecuting, said: "Dina noticed that the door was ajar and thought: 'Silly mum she's only just got home and she's left the door open'."
Hysterical screaming | |
But when they went into the house they found blood smeared around the hallway and called out for their mother, he said.
"Dina saw blood in the downstairs toilet. It was smeared on the walls and floor and her mother's three-band ring lay on the tiled floor.
"She then saw her mother lying on the floor in the living room. She started screaming hysterically."
He said that Miss Rezk "could not recognise her mother's face" because of the injuries she had suffered.
Prosecutors alleged Mr Edwards had entered the house with the intention of carrying out a burglary.
The case continues. |
