He suffered serious head injuries after he was attacked at a garage at Main Street, Waringstown, on Monday night. The attacker walked into a garage shop at Main Street, Waringstown, on Monday night and began to smash it up.
Police said a man with a hammer smashed up the shop, then went outside and damaged several cars in the forecourt before attacking the pensioner. "Staff and customers were fearing for their lives. Another guy tried to intervene but he was too powerful," said shop manager Jennifer Gill.
He is in a stable condition in hospital. One man is being questioned about the attack. "Then he went out and went ballistic in the forecourt." The man smashed cars before beating the elderly man.
He suffered a head injury and is in a stable condition in Craigavon Area Hospital.
