Family's car crashes into canal Toddler serious after canal crash
(about 3 hours later)
Four members of the same family have been taken to hospital after their car crashed into the Newry Canal. A two-year-old boy is seriously ill in hospital after his family's car crashed into the Newry Canal.
The car ended up in the canal after it was in collision with another vehicle on the Omeath Road. The boy was travelling with his parents and a male relative when their car swerved to avoid another vehicle on the Omeath Road and ended up in the water.
They were able to get out of the vehicle before fire crews arrived. It is understood the family were rescued from the vehicle by fire crews.
Three adults who were travelling in the car are described as ill but stable, while a child who was also in the vehicle is said to be ill. The boy, who is understood to have breathing difficulties, was transferred to hospital in Belfast after his condition deteriorated.
The other three received treatment for minor injuries after the accident, which took place at about 1430 BST on Wednesday.
Police have appealed for anyone with information concerning the incident to contact them.
