A major police incident is under way in Newport after a man and woman are shot in the city. A woman has died and a man is seriously injured after a shooting incident in Newport, south Wales.

Gwent Police said the couple are known to one another. Both were taken to hospital with serious injuries but the woman aged 46 has died. A 49-year-old man has undergone surgery.
"Armed police attended and found and male and female injured. Both were taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital with serious injuries," a police spokesman confirmed. Gwent Police said the couple were known to one another.
"It's not believed anyone else was involved in the incident - both of those involved were known to each other. In a statement, Gwent Police said: "Police were called to Willenhall Street Newport at about 8.45 am this morning after a report of what sounded like gun shots had been fired.
