A man has died and 60 people have been taken to safety during a fire at a seafront hotel in Blackpool. A man died and several people were taken to hospital after a fire at a seafront hotel in Blackpool.
Twelve fire engines were called at about 0330 BST to The Manor Hotel, on Central Promenade. The fire broke out in the basement of the four-storey Manor Hotel on Central Promenade at about 0330 BST.
The fire in the four-storey building took hold in the basement, ground and first floors before spreading to the neighbouring Waverley Hotel. Five residents were inside at the time, including a couple from Scotland and a man who died after becoming trapped in his room on the second floor.
A man was rescued from a hotel bedroom and treated for cardiac arrest on the way to hospital but died later. He was rescued by firefighters but later died in hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Initial reports suggested six people were in the building, but all escaped or were led away from the hotel by firemen. The fire also affected the neighbouring Waverley Hotel, which was also evacuated.
Four were suffering from minor smoke inhalation and a fifth person suffered more serious injuries but they are not thought to be life-threatening. Twelve fire engines were called to the scene and at its height, about 100 firefighters were tackling the blaze.
