Two people have been rescued after two cars, one of which overturned, went into a river in Derbyshire. Two people have been rescued after two cars carrying four members of the same family overturned into a river.

Three other casualties, a woman and two children, have also been taken to hospital for treatment. The four casualties - a man, woman and two children - were taken to Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, Greater Manchester for treatment.

The fire service said there had been no reports of the area being icy. Paul Hawker, station manager at Buxton fire station, said they believed both cars had lost control on the same area of snow or ice minutes after each other.
Neil Carruthers from Buxton Mountain Rescue said they were called to assist in rescuing two of the casualties that were further along the river near the cottages. The occupants of one of the cars - the mother and daughter - managed to get out of the water and call for help.
He said: "It is unclear how they came to be there but two people were found further along from where the crash happened. Mr Hawker said two nearby residents and a police officer had got into the water to help rescue the two occupants of the second car until fire crews arrived.
"They were not in the river and we assisted with their evacuation." Derbyshire Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
The A6 is currently "gridlocked" and police have warned motorists to avoid the area.
