The blaze broke out at Templemore Avenue on Friday night. Kieran Barr of the Fire and Rescue Service urged people to check their smoke alarms.
Both men were treated for smoke inhalation. "We had noticed that there were two smoke alarms in the house. Neither of them were working.
"The battery was removed from the downstairs smoke alarm and the battery in the upstairs smoke alarm was fitted the wrong way.
"This would send out a message to everyone that has a smoke alarm to make sure it is working and that they do test the battery at least weekly."
