Man 'overcome' by chip pan fumes
(about 4 hours later) | |
A 20-year-old man who died in a house fire in Ballymoney is thought to have been overcome by thick fumes from a chip pan fire.
He had been out on Friday evening and returned home to Drumvale Avenue, Bendooragh, at about 0100 BST.
It is thought he turned on the cooker and went into the living room. The pan went on fire and he was overcome.
His sister found him early in the morning and she and her mother tried to resuscitate him.
It is understood that the door between the kitchen and living room was open.
However, the door leading to the stairs was closed and this helped protect those in the bedrooms from the fumes.
As well as the two women, two boys, one aged four years and the other, 11 months, escaped injury.
The women and children were badly shaken.
There were two smoke alarms in the house, however, it is understood that neither was working.
In a separate incident, two men were rescued from a fire in a ground floor flat in east Belfast.
