Forensic teams are searching the house as part of the investigation. West Midlands Ambulance Service said attempts were made to resuscitate the woman but she was confirmed dead shortly after arriving at the Queen Elizabeth (QE) Hospital.
The condition of the three people who were taken to hospital is not yet known. A second woman, believed to be in her twenties, was taken to the QE with a broken leg, along with a man, in his thirties, who had back pain and fractures to his wrist and ankles.
A third woman, believed to be in her fifties, was taken to City Hospital with back pain.

Mohammed Rathore, who lives in Speedwell Road, said: "It was a shock for first thing in the morning, we saw the black smoke and heard screaming.
"Everybody was panicking and I am really shocked to hear she has died, they are a very nice family."
