Part of Scotland's only female prison was evacuated after a suspicious package was received in the post.
The package was discovered at HMP Cornton Vale in Stirling during routine x-ray checks.
Inmates housed in accommodation blocks adjacent to the main entrance were evacuated at about 1500 BST.
The contents of the package were later discovered to be two bottles of shampoo and a mini CD player.
Chief Inspector Kevin Findlater said: "A package was received in the mail at the prison around 8am and was not processed until five hours later when the alarm was raised.
"The contents caused some concern after initial examination by prison staff."
He said the package turned out to be "wholly innocent and not even a hoax".
The chief inspector added: "Correct procedures were followed by prison staff and we are pleased there was nothing sinister in the contents."
The prison currently houses about 320 female inmates.
Residents living near the prison were prevented from approaching their homes and told not to return until further notice.
The package was declared safe at about 1830 BST.
