Tshepo Gearupi was killed when he apparently put his arm through a gap near the gate of a lion enclosure, the South African Press Association reports. Tshepo Gearupi was killed on a visit to his aunt who lived on the farm, Cosatu spokesman Solly Phetoe told the BBC's Focus on Africa programme.
One of the lions grabbed him and pulled him in. According to the boy's mother, as he was passing the kraal where the lions were kept, one of the cats jumped over the fence and dragged him into the enclosure, Mr Phetoe said.
"Gearupi's poor mother will not see her boy any more, due to the non-compliance and recklessness of the farm owner," Cosatu spokesman Solly Phetoe is quoted as saying. "The funeral was only for the scalp. They couldn't find anything else. The rest was eaten by the lions," Mr Phetoe said.
"We call upon the court to do justice to the matter and respect the human rights and the children's rights contained in the constitution." "The 10 lions must be killed and the owner must be arrested and his licence must be withdrawn for the rest of his life," he said.
