More than 1,500 staff at a Glasgow-based financial firm may be affected by a move to outsource jobs to India, BBC Scotland has learned. Life funds management firm Resolution has announced the possible loss of 500 jobs with the outsourcing of operations in Glasgow and Birmingham.
The decision was announced to 1,550 staff at Resolution plc, which includes Scottish Mutual, Scottish Provident and Phoenix Life. Resolution which manages funds for Scottish Mutual, Scottish Provident and Phoenix Life Assurance, has unveiled a deal with Capita.
Capita has agreed a deal with Resolution which will see "back office" work moved to the sub-continent. Under the agreement, 2,000 staff will transfer to Capita.
Capita said customer-facing and "voice" roles would remain in the UK. Customer service and IT positions would remain in the UK but 'back office work' would be outsourced to India.
Staff working in Resolution's offices in St Vincent Street, Glasgow, reacted with disappointment to the news. More than 1,500 staff are based in St Vincent Street, Glasgow and about 450 staff are located in Birmingham.
