Murder inquiry after city death Fatal city beating 'unprovoked'

A murder inquiry has been started after the death of a man in Londonderry, the Police Service of Northern Ireland has said. A 42-year-old man who died after an assault in Londonderry appears to have been the victim of an unprovoked attack, the police have said.
He was attacked in Moyola Drive in the city at about 0330 BST. Three people have been arrested. He sustained head injuries after being attacked outside his home in Moyola Drive at 0300 BST and died in hospital.
Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward. His 15-year-old daughter sustained facial injuries in the assault and a 16-year-old boy had his arm broken.
"Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Moyola area and witnessed any kind of disturbance or assault," a spokeswoman said. Police said sticks or baseball bats may have been used in the attack. Three people have been arrested.
Detectives have appealed for information and said they are keen to speak to a taxi driver who was in the area and contacted them. They are still investigaing a motive for the attack.
