A police spokesperson said inquiries into the incidents were ongoing and advised residents to be careful. Chief Inspector Phil Marks said dissident republicans were suspected of being responsible.
They said anyone who sees any suspicious objects should not touch them, but instead contact police. "I'd like to take this opportunity to utterly condemn the reckless actions of these people, who left two viable explosive devices in residential areas of Sion Mills in the last two days," CI Marks said.
"There were children playing in these areas, very close to where these devices were found and people were going about their daily business enjoying the Easter break.
"Clearly these incidents demonstrate to me that those responsible for them have no regard for the safety of anyone, young or old."
