Nurses in England will strike for 48 hours over the first May bank holiday after rejecting a government pay offer. The government has reached a pay settlement with a million health workers after a majority of unions representing NHS staff backed the deal.
Some ambulance staff will also walk out on 1 and 2 May. Under the deal, which was first proposed in March, staff will get a 5% pay rise plus a one-off sum of at least £1,655.
It follows widespread industrial action by NHS workers in recent months, including junior doctors, physios and midwives. But the Royal College of Nursing and two other unions have threatened more strikes.
