A "ruthless and dangerous" robber who shot a police officer during a raid at a Lancashire pub has been jailed for life.
Wayne McDonald, 47, fired 12 bullets at Pc Katie Johnson, 29, who disturbed the robbery at the Hospital Inn in Bamber Bridge on New Year's Eve 2007.
McDonald, who was convicted of wounding with intent and robbery, was told he would serve at least 12 years.
Three other men were also jailed for their parts in the robbery.
McDonald was convicted last month along with fellow robber David Tyrell, 39, and the raid planners Rudolf Mancini, 55, and Hospital Inn chef Peter Plaskowski, 29.
Pc Johnson had recently qualified as a dog handler and was among the first officers to arrive at the scene in Brindle Lane following an emergency call from the pub landlord.
Peter Plaskowski and Rudolph Mancini were the raid planners
Sentencing McDonald, who was cleared of attempted murder, Judge Anthony Russell QC said he accepted he did not intend to kill Miss Johnson.
But he added: "It would not have bothered you in the slightest if you had maimed her."
McDonald must serve a minimum of 12 years in prison before being considered for parole.
Tyrell was given a indeterminate sentence for public protection (IPP) and will serve at least seven-and-a-half years in prison before being eligible for parole.
He was also cleared of attempted murder but convicted of wounding on the grounds of joint enterprise.
Mancini and Plaskowski, who were convicted of robbery, were jailed for eight years and three years respectively. |
