A woman has died in a fire at a house in a residential area of Newry, County Down.A woman has died in a fire at a house in a residential area of Newry, County Down.
The blaze broke out on Saturday morning at the property in the city's Quayside Close area. The alarm was raised at about 0740 GMT when a neighbour, who was out walking his dog, spotted smoke coming from the building.
The fire was reported to police and Fire and Rescue Services crews at about 0745 GMT. Fire crews who arrived shortly afterwards found an unconscious woman, thought to be in her 50s, inside the house.
News of the woman's death came after police and fire officers spent several hours carrying out an investigation at the scene. It is understood she was pronounced dead a short time later.
