Motorists are facing delays on the M11 in Cambridgeshire and Essex after a lorry shed its load of 300 aluminium beer barrels just before the rush hour. There followed a multi-vehicle accident at Great Chesterford on the M11. Five cars were later involved in a crash on the M11 at Great Chesterford causing severe delays.
The M11 is at present closed with motorists facing long delays and seven-mile tailbacks. The motorway was reopened by the Highways Agency at 1600 GMT.
The National Traffic Control Centre said traffic appeared to be moving again at 1620 GMT.

The later accident involved a MG SX car, a blue Hyundai car, a blue Mercedes CL and a silver Peugeot 206. In the later accident a man from Ely, aged in his 50s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and is in a stable condition.

At this stage police cannot say which vehicle the man was in but said the two accidents were related.
