One person dies on ice-hit road Fatal accident closes M8 motorway

A woman has been killed on the eastbound carriageway of the M8 motorway near Glasgow. The M8 motorway is closed in both directions near Glasgow following an early morning crash.
Strathclyde Police said the incident happened on the M8 west of the St James Interchange near Erskine about 0525 GMT on Wednesday. A 40-year-old woman died after her car left the eastbound carriageway near Erskine and struck a tree at about 0525 on Wednesday.
Police said the 40-year-old woman was driving a Vauxhall Corsa when it appears the car left the carriageway and struck a tree. It is thought that icy conditions may have played a part.
It is thought the icy conditions may have played their part in the accident. The M8 will remain closed between junctions 29 and 30 for several hours. The restrictions are causing delays in surrounding areas.
Detectives said they were particularly keen to speak to a male driver, who spoke to personnel from Amey Highways near the scene, because he may have been a witness to the crash. The roads affected include the Clydeside Expressway, Clyde Tunnel, Balshagray Avenue and Great Western Road to the Erskine Bridge.
The motorway was closed east and westbound for a period. Strathclyde Police want to speak to a male driver, who spoke to personnel from Amey Highways, near the scene of the accident.
Officers want to determine if he witnessed the crash.
