One person has been killed in an early morning crash on a motorway near Glasgow. A woman has been killed on the eastbound carriageway of the M8 motorway near Glasgow.
Traffic officers at Strathclyde Police confirmed that the incident happened on the M8 between Bishopton and Hillington. Strathclyde Police said the incident happened on the M8 west of the St James Interchange near Erskine about 0525 GMT on Wednesday.
It is understood that icy conditions may have played their part in the one-vehicle accident. Police said the 40-year-old woman was driving a Vauxhall Corsa when it appears the car left the carriageway and struck a tree.
The police said that the motorway had been closed east and westbound and that diversions were now in place. It is thought the icy conditions may have played their part in the accident.
Detectives said they were particularly keen to speak to a male driver, who spoke to personnel from Amey Highways near the scene, because he may have been a witness to the crash.
The motorway was closed east and westbound for a period.
