The crash happened at about 2220 GMT on Sunday on the A92 between Montrose and Arbroath, near the Lunan Bay turn-off. | |
John Gibson, 69, and his wife Isabella, 68, who had been married for 49 years, were pronounced dead at the scene. | |
The couple leave behind three children and four grandchildren. The family has said they will be missed terribly and thanked emergency services. | |
Their back-seat passenger, a 78-year-old woman from Montrose, was taken to hospital with serious leg, arm and hand injuries. | |
'Upsetting time' | |
The driver of the other vehicle, a 28-year-old man from Arbroath, was also taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with serious head injuries and multiple fractures. He is in a critical condition. | |
Mr Gibson was a retired long-distance lorry driver and Mrs Gibson was a retired shop assistant. | |
They had married at Brechin Cathedral in 1959 and celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary last week. | |
The couple were known to be Scottish country dance fanatics and enjoyed caravanning. | |
Sons Malcolm, 48, and Kenneth, 47, said: 'We would like to thank everyone who has been in touch to offer their condolences at this very upsetting time. It is very much appreciated. | |
"Mum and dad will be missed terribly by the entire family and all of their friends, particularly those in their Scottish country dancing group. | |
"We would also like to thank members of the emergency services who assisted at the crash scene. They do an admirable job in very difficult circumstances.'' |
