The M6 in Birmingham has been shut in both directions after a serious crash involving a number of cars and lorries. One person is in a critical condition after a crash which has closed the M6 in Birmingham in both directions.
The incident happened on the southbound carriageway between junction 6 and 7 at Spaghetti Junction and Great Barr. West Midlands Ambulance Service said seven people were taken to hospital after the collision at about 0600 GMT.
Police said the M6 was shut northbound between junction 6 and 7 and southbound between 6 and 8 after the crash about 0600 GMT. Long delays were expected. Four lorries, a car and a van were involved in the crash on the southbound carriageway between junction 6 and 7 at Spaghetti Junction and Great Barr.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said it had treated seven people with one taken to hospital with serious injuries. The M6 is shut northbound between junctions 6 and 7 and southbound from 8 to 6. Long delays were expected.

The fire service freed three people from their vehicles and six crews remained at the scene cutting free another motorist, a spokesman said.
