The first floor and roof of the house were gutted in the fire.
David Danby, the chair of Kirton Parish Council and who lives nearby, said he woke shortly after 03:10.
"By about 03.30 the whole of the top floor was ablaze," he said.
"The fire service got there as quick as they could but it had caught hold and it just shows you how quickly a fire can spread."
