Firefighters battle blaze at Mayfair apartment building in London Man saved from burning apartment block in heart of London’s Mayfair

58 firefighters are battling a major fire at a block of flats in Mayfair, central London. Eight fire engines are at the scene of the blaze on Bourdon Street, London Fire Brigade confirmed. A man has been saved from a Mayfair apartment fire by a brave bystander before the arrival of nearly 60 firefighters required to battle the blaze. The Bourdon Street building has been evacuated.
The London Ambulance Service and Metropolitan Police were also called to the fire at approximately 11.20am on Tuesday. One woman has suffered minor injuries and paramedics are treating two other people for smoke inhalation. Some eight fire engines and a team of 58 firefighters fought the blaze at the block of flats in central London, the fire brigade confirmed. Half of a flat on the first floor and part of a flat on the second floor were ablaze when the crews arrived.
The London Ambulance Service and Metropolitan Police were also called to the fire at approximately 11.20am on Tuesday. The building resident and his rescuer were treated at the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation. One man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. The Metropolitan Police confirmed to RT that one woman also received minor injuries.
The building has been evacuated and road closures are currently in place. Fire crews from Soho, Euston, Lambeth, Dowgate and surrounding fire stations are currently in attendance. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
The number of fire engines was originally reported as six, though that number has now risen as the incident develops. London Fire Brigade said that, so far, 12 calls have been made to 999 to report the blaze.
