Manchester Methodist Housing Association, which owns the property, described the fire as an "unfortunate incident".
Managing director Guy Cresswell said: "We're working with the family, the emergency services and our partner organisations to find out what happened, how and why it happened, and to establish what needs to be done next.
"Our staff are out liaising with community members in Yasmin Gardens and providing reassurance, and are working to make the property secure."
