Nine people have been involved in a road crash on the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway. Eight people have been injured in a serious road crash on the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway.
The accident took place near Gretna at about 1440 BST. The accident involving a car and a people carrier took place near Gretna at about 1440 BST.
It is understood two elderly people were trapped in their car after a collision with a people carrier which had seven people on board. Two elderly people had to be cut free from their vehicle and have been taken by air ambulance to Dumfries Infirmary.
Firefighters have been sent to the scene to help cut the couple free, and an air ambulance from Glasgow has also been directed to the incident. Six people who were travelling in the people carrier were also injured and have been taken by road to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said the full extent of the peoples injuries was not yet known.
Firefighters were sent to the scene to help cut two people free, and air ambulances from Glasgow and Carlisle were directed to the incident.
The accident caused lengthy tailbacks as police put diversions in place.
Traffic was being taken off the route and onto the B721 and B6357.
