One of the men is said to have managed to swim back to shore. One of the men managed to swim back to shore and raised the alarm at 1230 BST.
Local RNLI lifeboats and a rescue helicopter have been sent to help locate the second crew member. Lifeboats, coastguard rescue teams and an RAF rescue helicopter are trying to locate the second crew member.
RAF spokesman Flt Sgt Tim Dickinson said the weather at the scene was poor, but added that the Sea King helicopter being used in the search was equipped with the latest infra-red technology to pick up heat sources in the water.
