Lifeboats head for stricken yacht Three sailors rescued from yacht
(about 2 hours later)
A yacht with three people on board is in trouble on the Irish Sea, the RNLI has said. Three sailors have been rescued from their yacht in the Irish Sea.
The vessel has engine trouble and is taking on water about 12 miles from Kilkeel, County Down. The yacht suffered engine trouble at about 0700 BST and began taking on water 12 miles south east of Kilkeel.
Roy Taggart of Kilkeel lifeboat said it had reached the yacht and the crew were waiting on another boat coming to help. The vessel was on it way to Dublin from the Isle of Man when the emergency happened.
"It's difficult for our boys in an open lifeboat. We'll be able to hopefully bring three people safely into quieter waters." Lifeboats from Kilkeel and Clogher Head went to the aid of the yacht. The RNLI said gale forces winds meant conditions for the rescue were difficult.
It is being towed to Clogher Head by Clogher Head lifeboat and is expected to arrive at about 1130 BST.
