Nigel Farmer, 33, of no fixed address, has been charged with murdering the two students. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Sonnex is considered to be a dangerous man.
He is also charged with arson and attempting to pervert the course of justice and was remanded in custody by Greenwich magistrates. "Police advise members of the public not to approach him directly but to ring 999 if you see him."
The badly-burned bodies of the biochemistry students were found after an explosion at a rented bedsit.
Mr Bonomo had been stabbed nearly 200 times while Mr Ferez had suffered nearly 50 knife wounds.
