Parties clash on Stormont events Meeting over Stormont events row

The Long Gallery at Stormont is at the centre of a row over plans by the DUP and Sinn Fein to hold rival commemorations there. The commission which runs the Stormont building will meet later to discuss events to be staged in Stormont.
The DUP wants to remember the role of the SAS during the Troubles while Sinn Fein wants to celebrate the life of IRA bomber Mairead Farrell. Sinn Fein plans to hold an event celebrating the life of the IRA member Mairead Farrell.
She was shot dead by the SAS in Gibraltar 20 years ago. Ms Farrell was one of three IRA members shot dead by the SAS in Gibraltar 20 years ago.
The assembly speaker refused to take points of order about the proposed function when proceedings got under way in the chamber at noon on Monday.
The DUP is also plananing an event to celebrate the role of the SAS during the Troubles.
Some sources at Stormont say the commission may have to look at the details provided by event organisers to the Assembly about functions they wish to hold.
