Will Boris stick to his guns and get sprayed by his now useless water cannon?
Version 0 of 1. A year ago, Johnson, the Mayor of London, and MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, authorised the Met to purchase three second-hand water cannon from the German Federal Police. They arrived in London in July 2014, costing the taxpayer £218,000. Boris didn’t look like he was having his finest hour this afternoon, as he sat in the Commons, whilst the Home Secretary announced that she “remained unconvinced” about “the operability” of Johnson’s cannon. But last year Caroline Pidgeon, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, asked Boris if he seriously intended to be blasted with one of the cannon to reassure Londoners that they are safe. The Mayor responded by saying that he would be “making arrangements with the Metropolitan Police Service in due course,” to do so, convinced there was nothing to worry about. However Boris is yet to be sprayed by his expensive, and seemingly useless purchases, and it must now be asked is he'll stick to his pledge. Protesters being sprayed by water cannon in Turkey The Independent has asked the Mayor’s office if he still intends to be blasted by water cannon, but as of yet the answer remains unclear, and his office is yet to respond. If Boris were to stick by his pledge, it might make Londoners slightly less angry that £220k has been thrown down the drain. |
