(35 minutes later) | |
A Daily Mirror journalist has been arrested as part of Operation Golding, the investigation into claims of phone hacking at Mirror Group Newspapers.
The BBC understands he is agenda editor Lee Harpin, 47, who works across the paper and the website.
It is understood the arrest was made by arranged appointment at the Mirror's offices in Canary Wharf, east London.
Trinity Mirror, which owns the newspaper, said: "We can confirm that an employee was arrested today."
The BBC understands Mr Harpin was recently head of news and worked on the Mirror's general election coverage.
The man remains in police custody, according to Scotland Yard, which did not confirm his identity or any further details.
Operation Golding is a strand of the wider investigation into phone-hacking claims, Operation Weeting.
Scotland Yard said he was the fifth person to be held under Operation Golding. |
