Almost 50 children under the age of 15 were treated at Altnagelvin Hospital in 2007 for problems caused by drinking. A&E consultant Alan McKinney said celebrity role models needed to set a good example to children. "We have to demonstrate there are other ways to enjoy yourself, that you can grow up without getting caught up in the alcohol culture," he said. "To that end, I would like to see more celebrities such as football players demonstrating alternatives to alcohol rather than leading children into this binge-drinking culture." |
