Driver in court on attack charges

A taxi driver has appeared in court charged with five sex attacks on women in black cabs.

John Worboys, 50, of Sovereign Crescent in Rotherhithe, south-east London, is accused of rape, sexual assault and administering a substance with intent.

The charges follow an investigation of attacks in which victims were picked up in a black cab near Oxford Street, Kings Road or London Bridge.

Mr Worboys appeared at Sutton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

The allegations against Mr Worboys, a licensed black cab driver, are from between July 2007 and 15 February 2008.

He has been charged with one count of rape, four of sexual assault and six with administering a substance with intent.

The case was adjourned for a preliminary hearing at Kingston Crown Court on 15 April.
