Tube strike: When does the union action end and how can I get home this evening?

Version 0 of 1. London’s Underground will not return to normal until Friday morning – with Transport for London warning that commuters could still face severe delays. The strike, brought about over the decision to extend many workers hours when some Tube lines become 24-hours this September, has brought widespread chaos to London. Millions of commuters have been affected, with many still queuing in busy travel hubs such as Victoria or Liverpool Street Station in an attempt to board any kind of still-running public transport. Members of four unions (Aslef, RMT, TSSA and Unite) will end their strike at 9.30pm this evening. However, TfL has said that by that point it will be too late to restart the network. Only TfL Rail services and the Overground are running – and both networks are stretched to full capacity. A TfL spokesperson told The Independent they were attempting to ensure a “full, usual and normal service for tomorrow”. Meanwhile, those who have finally made it into work have already started planning their journeys’ home. Judging on this morning’s chaotic centres it seems to be a good shout – if possible – to avoid Liverpool Street and Victoria stations. In addition, if you can grab a Boris bike, that seems to be an effective way to beat the crowds. Finally, buses will be incredibly busy – and there are division in place for the Standard Chartered Great City Race. This will affect these bus routes: 4, 8, 11, 21, 23, 25, 26, 43, 56, 76, 100, 133, 141, 153, 172, 214, 242, 271, 388, and 521. |
