Two soldiers from the Royal Regiment of Scotland have appeared in court charged with the possession of explosives for an unlawful purpose. Three soldiers from Scotland have appeared in court on charges which include the illegal possession of explosives or firearms.

They have been remanded in custody after being arrested at Howe Barracks in Canterbury, Kent. They were both charged with possession of explosives for unlawful purpose.
Three other men have been arrested, two of them in the Strathclyde area. Lance Corporal Martin Fitzsimmons, 27 and another man, Christopher Logan, 20, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
The soldiers serve with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, currently based in Canterbury. They were both arrested in the Strathclyde area and were charged under the Firearms Act for offences which included not having a firearms certificate, not having a firearms certificate for ammunition and being in possesion of a firearm.
Both made no plea or declaration and were remanded in custody.
The three soldiers serve with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, currently based in Canterbury.

Strathclyde Police said two men aged 27 and 20 were arrested in Scotland on Friday, while another 27-year-old arrested at Canterbury has been brought north to appear in court.
Two of the three men are expected to appear in Glasgow Sheriff Court later.
