Two drivers have been killed in a head-on crash, believed to have been caused by one travelling in the wrong direction along a dual carriageway.

The accident happened on Saturday afternoon on the A417 at Dartley Bottom near Cirencester.

Gloucestershire police said it involved a black Mercedes saloon and a silver Vauxhall Astra.

Both drivers were found to be dead at the scene. The road was closed for eight hours for investigations.

"It is believed one of [the drivers] had been travelling the wrong way on the dual carriageway," said the spokeswoman.
