The bus crashed on the E40 motorway near Middelkerke, close to West Flanders on Sunday morning. Local reports suggested several people are still inside the vehicle.
ITV News has reported the bus was operated by Northern-Ireland based company Richmond Coaches. "One driver has been killed, the other is seriously injured in the accident. Some of the children with light injuries have been taken to local medical centre," Janna Rommel-Opstaele, the mayor of the nearby coastal town of Middelkerke, told Reuters.
None of the children or the six accompanying adults are believed to have been seriously injured in the accident.
She told the news agency the bus was operated by British company NST, which organises school tours.
A member of staff at the transport company, Richmond Coaches, said: “The children are all okay.”
He said they were from “a school from England” but declined to identify which one.
“I can confirm it is one of our vehicles. We are working with all the authorities and our thoughts are with anybody who was involved,” he added.
A spokesperson for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has said they are aware of reports of the crash and currently working with local authorities in order to establish details.
