Eight friends packed into 'overcrowded' VW Golf injured in Cornwall car crash

Version 0 of 1. Eight young people travelling through Cornwall in an “overcrowded” VW Golf in the early hours of this morning have been injured in a crash. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said the car was involved in a collision near the Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station on the Lizard Peninsula at around 20 minutes past midnight on Saturday. “This vehicle was a Volkswagen Golf and police are keen to hear from members of the public who may have information regarding this vehicle and its occupants prior to this incident,” he added. “Did you see this vehicle overloaded with passengers or travelling around the area last night? Police do not believe any other vehicle was involved at this time.” One of the patients has potentially life-threatening injuries, while five more are being treated at Derriford Hospital and the Royal Cornwall Hospital, and two of their friends have been discharged. Five of the friends had to be airlifted to hospital by a rescue helicopter from a nearby RAF base and others were taken by road ambulance. |
