Reggie Young: Dog bite baby death tests inconclusive

Tests to determine the precise cause of death of a baby who died after being bitten by a dog have proved inconclusive.

The inquest into the death of three-week-old Reggie Young was opened and adjourned earlier in Sunderland.

Reggie, who was born on 31 May, died at 7:20 BST on Saturday after being bitten by a dog at a house on Falkland Road.

A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and subsequently released on bail.

Home Office pathologist Dr Jennifer Bolton told coroner Derek Winter the precise cause of death was not known.

The inquest has been adjourned until November although reviews could be held before then.
