Fresh plea in Albert McDonald murder probe

Police investigating a man's murder have revisited the area where he was found.

Albert McDonald, 58, was found on the pavement with head injuries in Cumbernauld Road, in the Riddrie area of Glasgow, at 21:25 on Monday 15 June.

He died while being taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Officers are trying to trace six "significant witnesses" and the occupants and driver of a small burgundy car.

They have again been in the area a week on from Mr McDonald's death, in an attempt to jog the memories of people who may be able to help the investigation.

Skinny build

The burgundy car was seen in the area around the time that Mr McDonald was found.

Detectives have also said they want to speak to four people who they understand were on the number 38C First Bus travelling from Chryston into Glasgow city centre who might have seen Mr McDonald lying on the pavement before the emergency services arrived.

Mr McDonald is also understood to have spoken to a man and a woman between 21:15 and 21:20 outside nearby Alexandra Park.

The woman was described as white, aged between 24 and 28, 5ft 4in tall, with a skinny build and red/blonde hair in a ponytail. She was wearing a light beige baseball cap and grey jogging bottoms.

The man has been described as white, aged in his 20s, of medium build, and about 5ft 9in tall. He was casually dressed with a baseball cap.

'Completely devastated'

Senior investigating officer Det Ch Insp Laura McLuckie said officers wanted to speak to any of these people as a matter of urgency, and also appealed for anyone else who may have any information to contact the force.

She said: "Mr McDonald had significant injuries, and we're trying to establish just how he sustained them by piecing together his last known movements.

"Understandably his family and friends are completely devastated, and specialist officers are providing them with support at this tragic time.

"I would ask anyone who was in the vicinity of Cumbernauld Road around 21:30 or earlier, and who may have seen anything suspicious to come forward to police - and if you know of any of these potential witnesses please contact our inquiry team."
