The Metropolitan police worked with organisers to run a low-key policing operation, with few officers visible along the route. “There were five arrests throughout the operation – none of them for anything major,” a Met spokesman said. At one point, a group of demonstrators dressed in black with their faces covered split off from the main march and crossed Waterloo bridge to the South Bank but they were quickly surrounded by police. An outbreak of heavy rain dispersed most protesters from Parliament Square at around 6pm on Saturday.
