The chairmen of the House of Commons select committees have been announced, following a secret ballot of MPs. Former Labour welfare reform minister Frank Field has been elected as the new Work and Pensions Committee chairman.
Keith Vaz remains as Home Affairs Committee chairman, Frank Field takes on Work and Pensions, while Labour MP Meg Hillier assumes the helm of the influential Public Accounts Committee. He has been a vocal critic of the department's flagship Universal Credit scheme designed to streamline benefits.
