Woman with children in back allegedly hits five cars during Sydney police chase Woman with babies in back allegedly hits five cars during Sydney police chase
(about 9 hours later)
A woman is set to face charges after allegedly hitting five vehicles during a police pursuit in Sydney’s south-west while she had two infants in her car. A 33-year-old mother who had two babies in her car when she allegedly hit five cars in a high-speed pursuit in western Sydney has been charged.
Police say that at about 9.45pm on Saturday officers were patrolling on the M5 motorway at Moorebank when they saw the driver of a station wagon run a red light at an exit. Police have described the woman’s actions as “disgusting” after the Saturday night pursuit through Chipping Norton.
Police activated lights and sirens and initiated a pursuit when the driver allegedly accelerated to 110km/h in a 60km/h zone on Nuwarra Road. It is alleged the woman ran a red light as she exited the M5 onto Heathcote Road and accelerated away when police switched on their lights and siren.
Police say the driver sideswiped three vehicles parked on Nuwarra Road, struck the rear of another car and hit a van after mounting the kerb before finally coming to a stop in the front yard of a home. She allegedly reached 110km/h in a 60km/h zone before side-swiping three parked cars, rear-ending a fourth, and finally coming to a stop in a front yard after hitting a van.
A 33-year-old woman was removed from the vehicle, arrested and underwent a roadside breath test which was negative. A three-month-old boy and a 14-month-old girl were in the car, police said. The mother was arrested and all three were taken to hospital as a precaution.
Police say a 14-month old girl and a three-month-old boy were also in the car. The woman has now been charged with several offences including driving while unlicensed, speeding, reckless driving, negligent driving and failing to stop during a police pursuit.
All three were taken to Liverpool hospital for precautionary checks.
Police expect to charge the woman with numerous traffic offences including being an unlicensed driver, police pursuit (Skyes Law) and speeding offences.
